Retreats*

Dear Dharma Brothers and Sisters,

The *Broward Lotus Sangha* invites you to join us during *Zen Master Thich
Nhat Hanh's 2009 tour of the U.S.A.* when, as one community (or Sangha), we
will be attending some of his retreats. Just like we do in our *BLS Days of
Mindfulness and Mini-Retreats*, we will enjoy healing practices such as
sitting meditation, mindful breathing, mindful walking, mindful sharing,
silent meals, total relaxation, mindful movements, and touching the earth. We
will also have a unique opportunity to listen to Thay's Dharma talks and to
practice with Thay and many other Dharma Friends how to come back to
ourselves, nourish our relationships, and welcome joy, love, and peace into
our daily lives.

As many of you know,* our favorite Thich Nhat Hanh retreat takes place at
the YMCA of the Rockies, in Estes Park, Colorado*. Join the *Broward Lotus
Sangha *for a mindfulness retreat in the majestic natural setting of the
Colorado Rocky Mountains, a land truly blessed with beauty and wonderful
healing energy, August 21st-26th, 2009. *This is usually a family retreat,
so people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to attend*. Besides the
group activities that are open to all age groups, the monastic Sangha
develops three separate mindfulness tracks specifically designed for adults,
teenagers, and little ones so everybody gets a chance to practice.
*The Broward
Lotus Sangha already has a group of Sangha members that is going to attend
this treat of a retreat, so join us!*

We are making arrangements so that we can travel together as a Sangha, stay
together (e.g., share dormitories or other accommodations), and practice
together while attending these retreats. *If you have not done so
already, PLEASE
LET US KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHICH RETREAT(S) FROM THE LIST BELOW YOU ARE
INTERESTED IN ATTENDING SO WE CAN MAKE THE APPROPRIATE PREPARATIONS ON
BEHALF OF THE SANGHA. *Please e-mail your contact information including
name(s), e-mail, physical address, and phone numbers to
info at BrowardLotusSangha.org.* * Once again, as more information becomes
available, we will contact those who pre-registered with us to provide you
with further details about the retreats.

August 11th-16th: Retreat at Stonehill College, Easton, MA:
*Be Peace, Be Joy, Be Hope*

In this retreat, we shall learn and practice together the methods living
mindfully in each moment. With the practice of mindful breathing, mindful
walking, mindfully performing our daily activities, we learn to relax and to
release tensions in our body and mind, to take care of ourselves and our
family, and to be a peaceful force of change for our society and our world.
It is possible to be peace, joy, and hope.
*NO REGISTRATION INFORMATION AVAILABLE YET*

August 21st-26th: Retreat at the YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park, CO:
*One Buddha is Not Enough - Awakening our True Potential*

The ideal of individualism as a guiding principle for our society needs to
be reconsidered. It has brought some of us to a place of separation and
loneliness, of discrimination and conflict, and of arrogance and narrowness.
We have a chance to come together to practice the art of awakening, of
mindfulness not as an isolated self, but as a community of brothers and
sisters. Much has been studied and discovered about the potential and power
of the collective. Informed with the Buddhist wisdom of "interbeing" and
"nonself", we can combine our energy of mindfulness and concentration to
realize our full potential and our need of each other. We will learn and
practice to awaken to each moment and be fully present to our breath and our
steps and to each other as a spiritual family.

September 8th-13th: *English* Retreat at Deer Park Monastery, San Diego,
CA.
*The World We Are - Planting Peace, Harvesting Happiness*

Please join Thich Nhat Hanh, monastics and other lay friends in the
mountains of Deer Park Monastery to practice caring for ourselves and our
world. We will practice as a community, as a spiritual family learning the
art of tending the gardens of our mind and body. We will learn and practice
how to breathe, sit, and walk freely and peacefully, so we may enjoy the
present moment and be present to the wonders of our world that is always
available. Being a happy human being is the greatest talent and the most
needed skill that we can offer to ourselves and our loved ones. It is an
important gift to our world and an essential element to our efforts to
preserve our planet.

June 1-21, 2009 21-day Summer Retreat
*The Path of the Buddha: Buddhist elements for a Global Ethic*

All great spiritual traditions of the world have teachings and practices to
offer toward a Global Ethic. This Ethic can be presented in a kind of
language that is non-sectarian so that everyone, including atheists and
agonistics, can accept it. Buddhism with its training to obtain insight,
right view, its practice of true love (the 4 brahnasvitara) and of the
precepts (mindfulness trainings) have much to offer to formulation of a
Global Ethic, relevant to our time, when there are so much division, hatred,
violence and despair, and when the planet earth is in peril. This Global
Ethic will be considered as the spiritual dimension in our life. Without
bringing in our life a spiritual dimension, it will not be possible to
assure the survival of our planet. If each citizen of the Earth is guided
by the light of this Global Ethic and our political & economic leaders abide
by the spirit of interbeing and compassion, then everything will be possible
again.
