There are many ways to approach the 84,000 enlightenment teachings of the
Buddhas. One of these is via an experiential “condensed” legacy. In Tibet,
lineages of this nature were usually preserved by being embodied in the form
of verse, the text and oral tradition teaching of which were then
transmitted from generation to generation. One of the most popular lineages
of this nature is that known as *The Thirty Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva
*, based on the enlightenment experiences of the great master *Togmey Zangpo
* (1297-1371). Togmey Zangpo’s lineage is an easy and practical guide to all
the key practices in the *Mahayana Path to Enlightenment* and is used today
by masters of all schools of Central Asian Buddhism. *His Holiness The 14th
Dalai Lama* has taught it on more than a dozen occasions.

As we embark in our own *Spiritual Quest*, the quest to find our *True
Awakened Nature*, the *Path of the Bodhisattva* starts to unfold in front of
us. *Bodhisattvas* can be seen as mythical universal heroes or heroines who,
after leaving society to pursue the highest possible levels of illumination
for the benefit of all beings, vow, upon realizing them, to reintegrate
themselves back into society in order to help deliver all beings from
suffering and assist them in attaining enlightenment.

*Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh* teaches that if we are on the shore of
suffering, anger and depression and want to cross over to the shore of
well-being, we must return to ourselves and practice mindful breathing,
looking deeply at our suffering, anger and depression, smile and with Right
Effort practice *paramita*. The Chinese character used for paramita means
"crossing to the other shore"—the shore of freedom, harmony, and good
relationships.

During this *3-Day Non-Residential Retreat* with *Lama Glenn Mullin*, we
will be covering the above referenced topics as well as:
• Meditations for opening the Heart of the universal hero/heroine within us
(Bodhisattva), arousing the mind of love and developing compassion (*
bodhichitta*).
• The self-disciplines and wisdom trainings that carry a person from
ordinary consciousness to enlightenment (such as looking deeply—*vipassana
or vipashyana*).
• The Six Perfect Realizations or Paramitas:
o *Generosity* or giving (dana paramita)
o *Mindfulness Trainings* or precepts (shila paramita)
o *Inclusivness*, the capacity to receive, bear and transform the pain
inflicted on you by your enemies and those who love you (kshanti paramita)
o *Diligence*, energy, and perseverance (virya paramita)
o *Meditation* (dhyana paramita)
o *Wisdom*, insight, and understanding (prajña paramita)

*About the Dharma Teacher:*
*Glenn H. Mullin (Maitri Lama)* is a world renowned Tibetologist, Buddhist
teacher and writer, and translator of classical Tibetan literature. He has
authored more than two dozen books on Tibetan Buddhist culture, many of
which have been translated into a dozen languages. He studied in the
Himalayas for almost two decades with many of the greatest lamas alive at
the time, and has taught Buddhist meditation and philosophy in more than 20
countries around the world. He presently lives in Mongolia, where he is
helping to rebuild the traditional culture. For the past year he has focused
on restoring the Mongolian residence of the great Russian-born New York
artist and writer Nicholas Roerich, one of the early luminaries of the
theosophical movement.
