MINDFUL HIKE IN TALL CYPRESS NATURAL AREA 
Saturday, September 19, 2009

This event is free and open to the public so bring your friends and family!
 

The Broward Lotus Sangha will be joining the Broward Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society for a MINDFUL HIKE in Broward County's Tall Cypress Natural Area.  We will be walking slowly and mindfully while enjoying nature and learning about native flora and fauna.

 

This is a newly opened 66 acre site in Coral Springs.  A canopy of cypress transitions to Slash Pines.  Among the many varieties of plants, one will find Willow, Pond Apple, Sable Palm, Red Maples, and Strangler Figs.  Tall Cypress is also the perfect habitat for resident and migratory birds, including the Great Horned Owl, red-bellied and Pileated Woodpecker, Cardinal, Blue jay, great egret, little blue heron, and many species of warblers. Also present are white peacock, malachite, gulf fritillary, and Julia butterflies. Reptiles such as Turtles, Snakes and Lizards abound.  An elevated boardwalk allows visitors access to this dense area easily.  

Bring water and tune in your “birding ear” as we mindfully explore one of Broward’s newest natural areas!

 

Difficulty Level: Easy--All Ages and fitness levels welcome.  

 

What To Bring/Wear: Sun and bug protection, hat, non-alcoholic beverages, closed shoes, snacks or brown bag lunch.
