*About the Public Talk:*
There are many ways to approach the 84,000 enlightenment teachings of the
Buddhas. One of these is via an experiential “condensed” legacy. In Tibet,
lineages of this nature were usually preserved by being embodied in the form
of verse, the text and oral tradition teaching of which were then
transmitted from generation to generation. One of the most popular lineages
of this nature is that known as *The Thirty Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva
*, based on the enlightenment experiences of the great master *Togmey Zangpo
* (1297-1371). Togmey Zangpo’s lineage is an easy and practical guide to all
the key practices in the *Mahayana Path to Enlightenment* and is used today
by masters of all schools of Central Asian Buddhism. *His Holiness The 14th
Dalai Lama* has taught it on more than a dozen occasions.
As we embark in our own *Spiritual Quest*, the quest to find our *True
Awakened Nature*, the *Path of the Bodhisattva* starts to unfold in front of
us. *Bodhisattvas* can be seen as mythical universal heroes or heroines who,
after leaving society to pursue the highest possible levels of illumination
for the benefit of all beings, vow, upon realizing them, to reintegrate
themselves back into society in order to help deliver all beings from
suffering and assist them in attaining enlightenment.
*Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh* teaches that if we are on the shore of
suffering, anger and depression and want to cross over to the shore of
well-being, we must return to ourselves and practice mindful breathing,
looking deeply at our suffering, anger and depression, smile and with Right
Effort practice *paramita*. The Chinese character used for paramita means
"crossing to the other shore"—the shore of freedom, harmony, and good
relationships.
*During this Public Talk, Lama Glenn will provide an introduction to the
teachings that will be meaningful also for people who are not going to be
present for the whole Retreat.*
*In the Buddhist spirit of generosity and inclusiveness, Dharma Teachings
are offered free of charge. However, in order to help defray the costs
associated with providing retreat space and other expenses* *your generosity
in providing voluntary donations for the teacher, the Sangha, and the Temple
are gratefully accepted and encouraged*.
